New Era Girls’ Secondary School, located in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria, was established in 1948 by seven visionary women: Lady Kofoworola Aina Ademola, Lady Oyinkan Abayomi, Lady Lande Bank-Anthony, Lady Ayo Alakija, Chief (Mrs.) Remi Doherty, Chief (Mrs.) Olajumoke Kwao-Sagoe, and Chief (Mrs.) Omolola Alade. Their mission was to create an institution dedicated to grooming and nurturing young girls.
In November 2023, the school celebrated its 75th anniversary with a series of events, including the commissioning of a newly remodeled school hall named after its first principal, Lady Kofoworola Aina Ademola. The three-day celebration featured a workout session, a basketball novelty match between junior and senior students, and concluded with a thanksgiving service and reception.
The school’s alumni association, known as the New Era Girls’ Secondary School Lagos Alumni Association (NEGSSLA-A), remains active in supporting the institution. They have undertaken projects such as remodeling the school hall and organizing career guidance and counseling sessions for both junior and senior students
In sports, New Era Girls Senior Secondary School emerged as the champions of the inaugural Monday Gift Girls Cup in 2023, highlighting the school’s commitment to extracurricular excellence.
The school is located at 21 Ogunmola Close, Surulere, Lagos, and operates from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM daily
These achievements underscore New Era Girls’ Secondary School’s dedication to providing quality education and fostering the holistic development of its students.
